White Night

The opera’s season opening gala was a thoroughly elegant affair

Change is good! This year, the can’t-miss LA Opera gala (that kicks off the busy social season) made it’s fancy all-white, Russian themed dinner BEFORE the premiere of Eugene Onegin. Usually the swankified three-courser is after the performance—meaning you are eating a gorgeous, heavy meal about midnight. I would often look at some of the older gents at the affair and think, if they can do it, I can do it. I’m a pro, no? This year? Stroganoff at a decent hour a great performance and dessert and dancing afterwards hosted by actress Emmy Rossum (seen warming up the dancefloor with her Shameless co-star/rumored boyfriend Tyler Jacob Moore) for ARIA. There is ice skating onstage during the production and after the performance, patrons Barry and Nancy Sanders brought fellow guest 5 time world champ skater Michelle Kwan backstage to meet Placido Domingo and James Conlon and check out the rollerblading ice-skaters (see pic below). The opera was made possible by a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Milan Panic. Why mention this? They have underwritten the L.A. Opera’s opening night for the last ten years. Huzzah Panics! Additional support by Barry and Nancy Sanders. Go see the opera. Russian. Beautiful. Unrequited love. Fantastic costumes, sets and singing. It runs until October 9th. More info
