When in Rome

Italian artists come to L.A. and bring their best work
657

The group show When in Rome: Thirty Works of Art Between Now and Then (presented by Depart Foundation and Provincia Di Roma) opened in grand Roman style with a dinner at the home (a newly remodeled Lautner) of Pierpaolo and Valeria Barzan, followed a few days later by the show’s unveiling at the Italian Cultural Institute. Chef Nina Clemente catered an Italian supper for the arty crowd, which consisted of artists, patrons, and gallerists who mingled at the Barzans’ home and admired their art collection. The celebratory mood continued on opening night, which began with performances at the Hammer Museum and made its way to the nearby Italian Cultural Institute via a parade (16 performers and musicians in all). Not tired yet? Afterparty at the Mandrake. The exhibition is on view at the Institute until May 21.
