Trophy Life: The Critics’ Choice Television Awards

The takeaway from last night’s awards? HBO needs more trophy shelves, Seth MacFarlane is a “genius,” and why aren’t you watching FX’s Archer already?

If you are going by the numbers from last night’s Critics’ Choice Television Awards (broadcast on A&E), then HBO won the most trophies (the network took home seven; their limited miniseries Olive Kitteridge was the most awarded program, winning three prizes). FX’s Archer also cleaned up, winning the award for Best Animated Series for the fourth time in a row. Top it all off with one “genius”—Seth MacFarlane received the Broadcast Television Journalists Association’s LOUIS XIII Genius Award (from pal Charlize Theron).

A highlight of the evening? Allison Janney pulling an Adrien Brody on presenter James Corden. The kiss she planted on him when she got up to accept her award for Best Supporting Actress was one for the record books. Another highlight: HBO’s Bessie gaining momentum on the award train. Next stop on the battle of the TV remote? The Emmys in September.
