It seemed the entire country of Qatar (it’s not that big) popped by the Dolby Theater on Tuesday to celebrate Qatar Airways’s new route to Los Angeles alongside Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker. Titles were formal, as was the attire, and entertainment was non-stop, from dancers to acrobats. The intimate group gathered to have a sumptuous meal on the Dolby stage, which was covered in red roses.
While dessert was making an appearance, Mariah Carey stopped by for a full concert—not your usual three song gig. Carey performed at two events Tuesday night, belting out tunes for the UNICEF ball and the Qatar Airways bash. She did a longer set for the 19-year-old airline (including two outfit changes), bringing her wardrobe changes for the evening up to three. “We’ll keep it clean,” she said, referring to her usual sexy attire. “Do you like the ensemble? I thought it was appropriate.” She chose a short black sequined number and a longer dress with a cape. This gathering may have been small, but she brought along a full band and her wind machine, singing faves like “I’ll Be There” and “Hero” to guest’s iPhones.
“One thing that my home city has in common with Los Angeles is that Doha, our hub, is a city that made dreams come true,” said Mr. Akbar Al Baker. “And that was, of course, the dream of my country—to have a world-class airline second to none.” They certainly went first-class in Hollywood. What is the next event at the Dolby Theater? The Oscars on February 28.
