Kiss the Scotch: Raising a Glass to the Unforgettable Awards

The selection process begins for this year’s Mark of Respect Award winner

It should come as no surprise that after covering events in L.A. for almost twenty years, I am a BIG believer in the time-honored tradition of the party before the party. Royal Salute Whisky also believes in this tradition and threw a tasting at the Peninsula for the selection committee members involved in choosing the next Mark of Respect Award winner, who will be announced at the upcoming Unforgettable Awards. The Awards are one of the biggest Asian-American galas in the United States and will be held at the Park Plaza on December 5th. The selection committee’s job is to honor those who “continue to be leaders and achievers of greatness in the fields of arts and culture, especially within the Asian community.”

Journalists, event organizers, and whisky makers drew up a chair at a jovial yet elegant dinner while Master of Scotch (I know, great title) Rick Edwards taught the company to just “kiss the Scotch” as they consumed a Royal Salute 21-year-old Scotch and a 38-year old Stone of Destiny (again, great name) Scotch. Committee members include journalist Lisa Ling, KoreAm Journal and Audrey Magazine publisher James Ryu, and Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Los Angeles director Stewart Kwoh. Let the deliberations begin!
