Guest Envy: LACMA’s Art + Film Gala

The facts and the fab from the best party of the year

Just when I think LACMA can’t top their last fundraiser, they do. The museum threw its fourth annual Art + Film gala on Saturday. How can you not have a good time at a party with both Leonard DiCaprio and Boy George?

Just the Facts: Gala honorees Barbara Kruger and Quentin Tarantino along with event co-chairs Leonardo DiCaprio and LACMA trustee Eva Chow drew about 600 notables to dinner (Patina’s Joachim Splichal handled the kitchen) in a specially-built pavilion that glowed red and overlooked Levitated Mass. Gucci was once again the big-time sponsor, raising the fashion ante. At the end of the night, the fete raised a cool $3.85 mil.

Just the Fab: After a nearly 14-year break, Culture Club performed at the party (they have a new album, Tribes, due for release in 2015). It was fantastic to see Boy George and the other original members of the band sharing a laugh on the way in to the cocktail party. Michael Govan presented a tribute to Kruger and Tim Roth did the honors for Tarantino. Here is a breathless list of only a handful of party guests: Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy, Salma Hayek Pinault, Dita Von Teese, Christoph Waltz, new LACMA trustee Ryan Seacrest, artist Chris Burden, artist John Baldessari (a former gala honoree), Dan Caten, Dean Caten, Jeremy Scott, Amy Adams, Eddie Redmayne, Brad Grey, Harvey Weinstein, Lynda Resnick, Casey Wasserman, Viveca and Will Ferrell, Christian Louboutin, Bob Iger, Bryan Lourd, Jennifer Lopez, John C. Reilly, Jamie Foxx, and James Franco… We will literally be here all day if I keep going and we’ve both got things to do.
