Good Theater

Where do the Pitts and the Ferrells go on date night? They hit the premiere of God of Carnage at the Ahmanson

On opening night of God of Carnage it was hard to know where to look—at the audience or the actors onstage. The butts in the seats belonged to a pretty high-wattage crowd, and while we Angelenos may be cool when it comes to celeb types, there was a little neck straining. Who was there to see James Gandolfini, Marcia Gay Harden, Hope Davis, and Jeff Daniels behave badly in one helluva performance (you’ve seen MSQ’s review, of course)? The Pitts (Brad and Angelina snuck in and out of a back door), Martin Sheen, Will Ferrell, Sandra Oh, Anjelica Huston, and Eric Idle all gave the performance a standing O and gasped at the shocker in the middle. Jolie chatted with patrons before a Center Theatre Group staffer stood vigil near her to discourage the hoi polloi. CTG artistic director Michael Ritchie and Kate Burton sat next to the couple and proceeded to have more visitors than Brangelina (hmmm, is that term over?). At the after-party at Chaya downtown there was a grope or two (check out the pics—Jon Polito is obvious, but where is Julian Sands’s other hand?). God of Carnage is playing at the Ahmanson Theatre through May 29.
