Doris Day on Her 91st Birthday

Fans once again trek to Carmel to pay tribute to their favorite star and go to the dogs

Check out this sunny picture of birthday gal Doris Day taken Friday on the balcony of her Carmel Valley home. The actress/singer/animal do-gooder celebrated her 91st birthday over the weekend and Carmel once again was filled with fans who attended a tribute show at Day’s homey Cypress Inn. Scott Dreier, Laura Didier, and Jim Martinez performed for a standing room-only crowd of admirers. The Doris Day Animal Foundation also auctioned off an advance copy of Turner Classic Movies and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s DVD set Doris Day: The Essential Collection, which is comprised of 15 of the actress’s films, from Please Don’t Eat the Daisies to The Pajama Game, and which goes on sale tomorrow. Fans are encouraged to contribute to The Doris Day Animal Foundation in lieu of gifts.

Last year the very private Day surprised the crowd who gathered for her 90th birthday by quietly slipping in to a dinner in her honor at Quail Lodge. She stayed to greet people who had traveled from all parts of the world to sing “Happy Birthday.”

Happy Birthday, Doris Day!
