Dancing in the Streets: The Concern Foundation Block Party

Partying on Paramount’s backlot and honoring cancer researchers

Dr. George Klein is in his ’90s, and he works in the lab at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm every day. He and his colleagues around the world, researchers who are part of The Concern Foundation for Cancer Research, were honored the other night at their org’s annual block party (this mag is also a sponsor). Klein appeared via video amidst the partying on Paramount’s Backlot to thank the over 3,500 partiers who’d gathered to raise money for the org, eat, gamble, and dance.

This is the org’s 41st block party, and the theme was “An Evening in Paradise.” Past themes have included classic television shows and cowboys (the mechanical bull rides were a nice touch). Samba music, vintage cars, and over 60 L.A. caterers and restaurants filled the faux city streets this go-round. There was always a line at Pink’s (although not as bad as the usual line on La Brea); Fogo de Chao served up plates filled with Brazilian churrasco; and Prufrock served pizza piled high with mushrooms.
