Everything old was new again this week at The Culver Hotel as Leslie Zemeckis threw a truly memorable book party and fundraiser for her newish tome, Goddess of Love Incarnate: The Life of Stripteuse Lili St. Cyr (Counterpoint). Complete with music, performers, and a silent auction benefiting the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, the affair took place in the iconic hotel’s revamped lobby. Famous faces like Christopher Lloyd and Kelsey Grammer stopped by to get in on the action in the SRO party, although it was a bit disconcerting to see Doc Brown in the front row while burlesque dancer Maxi Millions did a spirited bump n’ grind. (Great Scott, are we right?)
The auction had great items like historic photographs, artwork, and Astronaut Training classes. Sylvia & The Rhythm Boys played throughout the night when a dancer wasn’t commanding the floor. Zemeckis got into the spirit of the evening in a truly fabulous dress, and the party roared into night with revelers laughing and walking along Culver City’s sidewalks with their auction prizes tucked under their arms. Zemeckis’s next project? A documentary film on the world’s first female tiger trainer, Mabel Stark. Now that will be a party.
