L.A. was in the house at American Ballet Theatre’s 75th Anniversary Holiday Benefit the other night at the Beverly Hilton. Of the seven performances enjoyed by an intimate group of supporters, the two most well-received were those by L.A.’s own Misty Copeland and Stella Abrera. Copeland performed the iconic Swan Lake with partner Alexandre Hammoudi, while Abrera went otherworldly, dancing a selection from Giselle with partner James Whiteside. After the performances, dancers joined guests including Jennifer Tilly, Nigel Lythgoe, Lesley Ann Warren, and Dita Von Teese. Harry Winston and the Lloyd E. Rigler-Lawrence E. Deutsch Foundation were the big-time sponsors. The evening raised $375,000.
The NY-based company often pliés through L.A. and will do so again in July to close The Music Center’s season with Firebird.
