The F-Stop: Music Man Larry Hirshowitz

For my money, one of the best perks of living in a car city like Los Angeles is great radio, and KCRW has perhaps one of the best curated programs, Morning Becomes Eclectic. What goes better with music than photography? They’re like chocolate and peanut butter. Add some booze and you’ve got my Saturday night. I went to a pop up gallery show at the new Greenbar Distillery downtown (the first distillery in L.A. since prohibition) to have some strong whiskey and see some amazing portraits by photographer Larry Hirshowitz, the lucky dog lensman who gets to photograph all the musical artists that visit Jason Bentley’s show. Hirshowitz’ prints of David Byrne looking introspective, Glen Hansard with his now famous worn out guitar, Paul Weller catching a smoke, and Yo-Yo Ma hauling his cello up the stairs were on view for one night only—but you can see them, and more, in the slide show above.
