White Now: NYFW’s Fresh Take on the Color that Isn’t

Two right ways to wear white

I know when I fell in love with the color white. I was watching Bad Boys II and Syd, played by Gabrielle Union, came into a scene in a fierce, perfectly-tailored all-white suit. She walked with such confidence. I was mesmerized. Right then I promised my 12-year-old self that I’d own the look one day.

A classic, snowy suit isn’t in my closet yet, but a basic white button down I scored at the Gap, is, and it’s hands-down the most versatile piece of clothing I own. It’s like my college best friend, always there to save the day. Just in time to break me from the rut, designers at NYFW showed off new ways to wear my favorite color. I know Syd could pull off either:

With Metallics
Calvin Klein’s sleeveless, white viscose dress with intricate metallic detailing on the shoulders was glamorous, but subtly so. The look was modern goddess on the weekend.

With Neutrals
Jill Stuart meanwhile, mixed her whites with other neutrals, including creams and blushes. Stuart’s version of my fantasy suit was paired with a nude, long-sleeve button-down blouse and chestnut brown ankle strap heels.
