Where the Wild Things Are (in L.A.)

Seeking your next fix of botanic beauty? Wild Vase—a florist specializing in seasonal, local and organic arrangements—is worth a visit. In business since 2013, founder Alice Goldsmith works out of her garage in Silver Lake and picks up her materials from the downtown L.A. Flower Market. She grew up surrounded by the wild flowers of Malibu Canyon but spent her summers across the pond with her grandmother in the U.K., where she was inspired by the lushness of English gardens. At Wild Vase, she aims to mix that prim and proper aesthetic with the natural flora of the West Coast and bring it into our L.A. homes.

Around New Years this year, photographer Patrick Fraser bumped into Goldsmith at a party in Joshua Tree and found her so lovely that he created the film above about her. “I love that there is now a shift away from huge corporations and back to the local cottage industry—artists making and selling their wares in a small scale, personal way,” he says. “It brings the L.A community together.” Now that’s a fresh idea.
