Three Ways to Wear Board Shorts on Land

The designers behind Kamala Trunks make their case for the beach-to-bar trend in menswear

When Peter Pilotto designed graphic rash guards for Target and then styled them as ready-to-wear, we flirted with the idea of donning swimwear during the day. Now Daniel Metoudi and Alex Jamiolkowski, the two faces behind Kamala Trunks, are taking the beach-to-bar trend on for men. Their take: the right board short can look good (read: appropriate) almost anywhere. Here, they offer three ways to get more wear out of suits:

Metoudi and Jamiolkowski, both undergraduates at the University of Southern California, are familiar with the time restraints of the twenty-something and wear swim trunks to class almost every day for both comfort and accessibility.

To complete the look, Metoudi suggests pairing a swim trunk with a t-shirt and a pair of sneakers, especially Vans and Converse. With patterned trunks, Metoudi opts for a plain white T.

While you may not be planning to go surfing after a night on the town, swim trunks can be a great substitute for chinos. The Kamala men say to pair your swim trunks with a button-down shirt and a pair of loafers (like Sperry’s). To class the look up one notch further, throw a blazer over the button-down.

For those Fridays at work when you can substitute comfort for class, wear swim trunks with a pullover and a button-down for a laid-back look that’s still semi-professional. Once work lets out, you’re geared to go to the beach.
