Thank God for Boxy Tops and Midiskirts

Forget the thermometer—fall fashion is here at last

On Thursday, Los Angeles magazine hosted an event wit Bloomingdales at the Glendale Galleria. The 20% discount offered aside, the evening provided shoppers with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from 9021PHO (delicious, fresh, and crispy!) and showcased a presentation of the latest fall fashion trends as demonstrated by our very own Style Collective. Editor Linda Immediato and blogger Amelia Champion and I each revealed two autumn items representing the styles of this season. Here are the looks we love:

Boxy tops and sweaters
Say goodbye to those form fitting tight shirts and tanks. Thankfully, comfort is back in, so look for structured, square-shaped sweaters and tops this season, like this BCBGeneration boxy crop ($68).

Matching two pieces
Matching tops and bottoms not only go well together, they make good business sense: Just pair your separates with complimentary basics to score a second look. I love this Black Halo Sanibel Two Piece Dress ($415).

Simply a cute way to say mid-length skirts and dresses. We’re currently into the flowey, bohemian look and if you are too, you should take a peek at Free People’s “Printed Bonnie” dress ($168).

This classic look seems to return every fall, and we will continue to welcome it with open arms. Still, Burberry’s fox fur trimmed “Half Mega Check Lightweight Wrap” feels fresh ($1,095).

Oversized coats
Your keyword this season: oversized. From Donna Karen’s Pre-fall collection to the more avante gaurde looks of Dice Kayek, this trend is season defining. Try styling this Elie Tahari Louisa Coat like Amelia Champion did last week by draping it over your shoulders for a relaxed and effortless feel.
