As a general rule, I’m always excited when a French brand launches a new product—a feeling rooted in the fact that French women do seem to hold dear the age-old secrets to firm and toned skin—so L’Occitane’s four new botanically rich skin savers caught my eye. The line’s star ingredient: Corisca’s beloved Immortelle flowers. This golden flower, Helichrysum or “golden sun” in Latin, never fades in color, even when picked by the local growers. (More than 3 billion flowers are harvested each year in Balagne, an exclusive region known as the “garden of Corsica.”)
L’Occitane’s labs have tapped into the anti-aging properties of the everlasting flower’s oil—when extracted, it counteracts free radicals and boosts collagen—and blended it with seven other plant-derived ingredients like Evening Primrose, Corsica Honey and Marsh Clover for the highly intensive Divine Collection ($54 – $116). The group, which is elegantly packaged, offers a lightweight lotion for normal skins, a dense cream for drier types, a concentrated extrait to use under either formulation, and a unique eye cream with a gel-like composition. Each is enriched with Hyaluronic Acid, a natural lubricant that attracts and holds water, helping the skin to absorb moisture and retain its youthful plump. Having tested the line, I can say it wears well under makeup and provides all day moisture with an ultra rich texture that somehow manages to feel surprisingly light. One tip for new users: A little of the herbal scented Divine Cream goes a long way. Viva la dolce vita.
