Six Discoveries From L.A.’s Old-School Haven for the Beauty Obsessed

Larchmont Beauty Center peddles nostalgia-inducing basics and favorite new potions

At Larchmont Beauty Center, Queen Helene’s face masks (you may remember the brand’s cream-cheese textured, Shamrock-Shake-green Mint Julep mask from elementary school) can be found alongside higher-end product lines like Mario Badescu, Dr. Hauschka, and Nars.

It’s extremely satisfying to weave through the tall, packed rows of shelves at Larchmont Beauty Center, where you’ll discover rare, new-to-you lotions and potions while also being re-introduced to products that’ll stir your sense of nostalgia (think Votivo Red Currant candles, jaw hair clips in every size imaginable, and ornamented tin pots of perfumed lip balms).

Prices run the gamut at the shop and the exceedingly friendly staff will fill your bag with samples and your head with a colossal amount of product knowledge. A visit to the Beauty Center may diminish your ability to shop for beauty products online ever again.

We’ve picked a few of our favorite things from this small wooden maze of a store:

Claus Porto Sabonette Aromatico Almond Oil soap, $17.95

Egyptian Magic, $39.50

Votivo candle, $28

Smith’s Rosebud Salve, $6.00

Butter London nail polish, $15

Mason Pearson Pocket Bristle hairbrush, $120
