Prime Finds: January’s Freshest Outerwear, Shoes, and Bags

Here’s what’s on our wishlist this month

Fluff Love

The trend:  Warm and fuzzy outerwear
Who’s doing it: Burberry and Balenciaga use shearling to put a woolly twist on the classic trench. At Chloé and Preen, fleece accents coat cuffs and collars. Mongolian lamb lines jackets at Lanvin and adorns sweater vests, like this one, at Helmut Lang ($1,390 at Helmut Lang, West Hollywood).

The L.A. look: We’ll never need a floor-length cashmere peacoat, but we could rock a shaggy sleeveless sweater or vest with jeans and boots without overheating.

Buckle Up

The trend: Mary Janes

Who’s doing it: Prada updates the style with metallic leather and pastel rubber. Rochas and Dolce & Gabbana (left, $1,495 at Dolce & Gabbana, Beverly Center) bedazzle heels and toe tops. Christian Louboutin and Marc Jacobs (right, $478 at Marc Jacobs, Beverly Grove) go the Dorothy route with glitter.

The L.A. look: These can be worn year-round—preferably with skirts or culottes. On chilly days, just add tights.

The trend: Box bags

Who’s doing it: Valentino squares off its Lucite clutches, inspired by the cosmos. Louis Vuitton (top left, $6,050 at Louis Vuitton, Beverly Hills) scales down its iconic trunk. Monique Lhuillier (top right, $2,495 at Monique Lhuillier, Beverly Grove) embellishes satin styles. Mark Cross hews fancy with gold-plated brass (center, $4,000) and everyday with soft leather (bottom, $2,495 at Elyse Walker, Pacific Palisades).

The L.A. look: Same basic rule (we do have a few!) applies: Save supersparkly numbers for evening.
