Wild child: Philippines native Monique Lhuillier traveled to Paris, Hong Kong, and L.A. before attending high school in Switzerland. She was expected to join her siblings at Pepperdine University after graduation but broke with family tradition and enrolled at downtown’s Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. “In my high school yearbook I wrote that my goal was to open fashion boutiques.” Here comes the bride: Unable to find a chic wedding dress, Lhuillier made her own in 1995, then launched a bridal design business with her husband. Her waist sashes and flowers made of fabric twists triggered industry trends. Dinnertime: She collaborated with Royal Doulton on a collection of china, crystal, and silverware, which launches in January. “It’s not a direct translation of the dresses. One of my favorite china patterns is an animal print. If you look at my home, there are exotic textures everywhere. Not everything is soft and pretty.” Now showing: Lhuillier’s tabletop items will be available at Bloomingdale’s; her handbags, wedding gowns, and ready-to-wear are sold at her new store. » 8485 Melrose Pl., West Hollywood, 323-655-1088.
