It was only a matter of time before Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, the duo behind the red carpet and wedding aisle staple Marchesa, tried their talented hands at designing fine jewelry to go with their gowns, so we weren’t surprised when we heard the British-born duo had partnered with Prestige Jewelry International for the Marchesa Eternal Collection, their brand-new line of engagement rings, wedding bands, pendants, and earrings sold at Macy’s stores nationwide.
That doesn’t mean we didn’t have questions. Here, a Q&A with Chapman and Craig:
What prompted your decision to expand your brand to include fine jewelry?
GC: So many of the brides we work with are unsure of what type of jewelry they should wear on their wedding days. They want something simple, but not too traditional, and something that complements their dress but doesn’t overwhelm it.
KC: Designing a fine jewelry collection felt like a natural progression for us, so we designed a collection our bridal clients would love, highlighting romantic designs that will last a lifetime.
What was the design experience like? Did you approach it differently than your approach to designing clothing?
GC: It was remarkably similar to designing our clothing collections. We focused on bringing the memorable details and unique designs that our customers love to fine jewelry. Embellishment is a big part of our couture collection, and designing this jewelry collection felt like an extension of that same idea.
Describe the collection. What was your inspiration?
KC: We are always inspired by the Marchesa woman, who is confident, elegant and bold. The Marchesa Eternal Collection blends vintage styling with modern whimsy.
GC: We focused on engagement rings, wedding bands, pendants and earrings that embody Marchesa’s signature romantic elegance. We were inspired by estate and antique jewelry, pieces that look substantial but are unique in design and still have a modern appeal.
Why did you choose to partner with Prestige Jewelry of all brands?
KC: Prestige was the perfect partner because they are experts in the manufacturing of diamond jewelry. We had a very clear vision of what the collection should look like, and Prestige was instrumental in helping to execute that vision.
Did you encounter any unexpected challenges?
GC: Learning all the new jewelry terminology was definitely a challenge!
KC: To work with the world’s most precious stone is exhilarating. We always love working with semi-precious stones in our embroidery, so this is a truly exciting experience for us.
Which piece are you most happy with and why?
GC: It would be impossible to pick! My favorite element we included in the collection is the hand engraved Marchesa Star on the shank of each ring. Stars are a symbol of wishes. We wanted the star to remind the wearer of their dreams and hopes for the future.
