Make Up For Ever, the pro-turned-consumer cosmetic company, will be opening its first freestanding L.A. boutique and training facility tomorrow—Friday, November 11. The 1,300 square foot facility will cater to the novice as well as the pro. Anyone entering the shop can get a 30 minute complimentary lesson (with just a $40 product or gift card purchase) to learn some tricks of the trade like contouring, foundation coverage, how to do a smoky eye, or balance brows. With a $120 purchase, customers can receive a complimentary 60-minute lesson that covers complexion, eyes, lips and anything in between. Instructors create a face chart for you and list products used and techniques, so you have a cheat sheet to take home and refer to.
And anyone who’s watched a YouTube video to learn how to apply makeup (or anything for that matter) will love the Recording Studio. For an extra $20 for the 30-minute lesson or an extra $35 for the 60-minute lesson, you can book time in the “Recording Studio,” where your step-by-step instructions are recorded on video, with your instructor standing behind you, so you can see every step as you would when you look in a mirror. The entire session is put on a lipstick-shaped USB stick and off you go to attempt shading and blending on your own.
Pro and aspiring make up artists will find a whole section of special effects tools and products, like prosthetic sculpting clay (which even a novice can purchase and take a lesson in using, should they want to create, say, Lady Gaga monster cheekbones), three distinct types of fake blood, runny and clotted (True Blood artists use Make Up For Ever exclusively) and a room in back of the boutique for sampling products away from crowds. They will also have access to the Make Up For Ever Pro Loft, just down the street where they can attend seminars and workshops, check out research materials and use the photo studio for shoots and test shots.
To celebrate their Grand Opening on 11/11/11 Make Up Forever L.A. Boutique will be offering 30-minute video lessons for only $11 from Friday through Sunday. Each of those days they will also be raffling off a custom train case with 30 essentials valued at $600, and no purchase necessary to enter.
