Lancôme’s New Release Is a Summer Cover Up For Skin

Foundation is not supposed to be complicated, but my search for an ideal olive shade that looks good outdoors, inside, and on Instagram and has the perfect finish (I prefer demi-matte), makes it a production.

I’m never completely satisfied with just one formula. Am I asking for the moon if I want skin that’s dewy, radiant and fresh-looking? Maybe. But Lancôme’s answer, Miracle Cushion ($46.50), could come close.

Like the clever, springy little cushion compacts that have been a huge hit in the South Korea market, Miracle Cushion is a hybrid product that’s part BB cream and part CC cream all wrapped into one sponge applicator. What it delivers: age defying, pore minimizing benefits along with light to medium coverage to camouflage slight imperfections.

Any foundation that doesn’t feel like foundation is a good thing. Miracle Cushion goes on wet but weightless. The more product you apply, the more coverage you get. The first layer I applied acted like a tinted moisturizer. A second layer evened out my skin tone but the foundation didn’t settle into my pores or fine smile lines. I found it easier to blend with a foundation brush or sponge, but the supplied powder puff worked well for quick touch-ups. With 11 shades in the lineup (including three for warmer, honey tones), you won’t need to mix and match to find a proper fit. Although it lacks SPF (which most BB/CC creams offer), the hydrating formula is ultra concentrated, so a little goes a long way and won’t disappear mid-day. Plus, it’s oil-free, which means it’s good for those with acne-prone skin who might be inclined to ditch their foundation during the summer out of fear of breaking out.
