The Simple Life: Katy Rodriguez’s debut collection of dresses was innocent and girlie, a departure from the beaded and embroidered boho looks that put her upscale vintage store, Resurrection, on the map. The line is made of a mix of new fabrics, like silk charmeuse, and vintage ones, such as linen and peau de soie. The Outsider: Growing up in San Francisco and coming of age in New York, she faced a style quandary when she moved here in 2002. “I was never a tight-jean, little-top, strappy-high-heel kind of girl. My designs come out of a need to feel dressed enough and still casual in that California way.” Team Player: Collaborations with artist Raymond Pettibon and skater Tony Alva (who is also her boyfriend) put her art-school education to use, but her own line is all about wearability. “It doesn’t scream, ‘Look at me.’ I don’t want to reinvent the wheel.” Friends in High Places: Lindsay Lohan, Liv Tyler, and stylist Rachel Zoe have bought frocks. Now Showing At: Neiman Marcus, 9700 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills, 310-550-5900; Resurrection, 8006 Melrose Ave., L.A., 323-651-5516.
