Looking for some collective beauty wisdom? According to Rank & Style (which uses a proprietary algorithm to aggregate data from magazines, blogs, department stores and social media and create authenticated top 10 lists), the artfully designed Hourglass Modernist Palette ($58) is the highest-ranking palette for this season.
One look at this stunning collection and I’m inclined to agree with the thousands of people who have voted it to the top. The seamless fusion of color easily beats palettes that compartmentalize different shades (and yet get lots of hype when they’re launched). This one offers a mixed of textures in classic colors—there are three matte, one semi-satin, and one frosted shadow. All are finely milled and supremely soft. What annoys me about palettes is how I inevitably end up with a few untouched pots of color. I didn’t with this one. Shown here is Monochrome, a beautiful set of richly pigmented shades that would work so well on any skin tone. The dark chocolate can be used wet (good for a smudgy but toned-down slept-in smoky eye) while the unpretentious rose nude can be worn on its own for a sheer, spring-ready look. They slid onto my skin like silk and stayed put until the end of the day. There is strength in numbers.
