What was your inspiration for Mad Men’s new late-’60s look?
Vintage magazines, old photographs, catalogs, newspapers, and movies from the period. Some of my favorite films were You’re a Big Boy Now, The Graduate, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, and Barefoot in the Park.
How do you translate the show into each season’s Banana Republic collection?
This time I started with a character—Megan Draper was really my muse. As always, it begins with what’s worn on the show, but the cuts, fabrics, and designs have to be current.
What are the key pieces for going mod?
Besides the false eyelashes, you need a miniskirt or minidress worn with go-go boots or flat T-strap sandals. Bright colors and bold graphic prints are essential as well.
