The Rynshu collection showing at Paris fashion week — which kicks off today! — is themed “The Red Carpet,” but that’s not the only taste of L.A. the show will include. One of the models walking, Aaron Walton, is the CEO of the L.A.-based advertising agency Walton Isaacson who started walking in Rynshu’s shows three collections ago — at age 50.
So how does a businessman go about landing such a glamorous side job? “My journey into the world of modeling came to fruition when fashion photographer and dear friend Kal Yee agreed to take corporate PR shots of me. During our session, one of the outfits I wore was a Rynshu suit,” Walton explained. “Coincidentally, Kal had shot the Vogue Hommes ads for Rynshu a number of times, and sent him a copy of the photo. Rynshu loved the image and asked Kal if I might be interested in walking in his Paris show for his Fall/Winter 2012 collection.”
The accidental model doesn’t find his two careers too distant. “I’m passionate about fashion and advertising because both push the boundaries of convention,” Walton explained. “Every time I walk the runway, I’m even more convinced that they are two sides of the same coin—fast paced, extremely competitive, but above all, driven by creativity.”
His unusual age in the business hasn’t held back his pride in the experience. “I’m still astonished by the fact that I walked the runway with beautiful, more experienced 18–22-year-old models, and managed to hold my own in the process.”
