H&M is Turning Black Tie Green

If Helen Hunt’s forgoing of designer threads in favor of an affordable and eco-friendly H&M gown at the Oscars got your green senses tingling, the mass retailer’s launch of its Conscious Exclusive Collection this Thursday at their West Hollywood store may be up your alley.

Environmentally conscious clothing may make you think burlap and hemp, but think again. The collection features party-wear—gowns, jumpsuits, tuxes—made with more sustainable materials, namely organic cotton, TENCEL and recycled polyester and polyamide.

While Helen Hunt’s gown was custom-made for her, the collection’s assortment of princess-worthy pastels, whites and lace would have fit in seamlessly with the blush and icy tones that dominated the rest of this year’s Oscars Red Carpet

The launch party promises attendees who bring in any used clothing item 25% off a purchase from the party-wear collection, and the first 75 customers to purchase from the Conscious Exclusive Collection will have the chance to meet the party’s host, Victoria Justice.
