The Golden Globes are nearly here! Hollywood kicks up the glam factor for this one and we’ll be watching the red carpet to see who nails it and who doesn’t (Tweet along with us on Sunday at 4). But first, we’re taking a shot at predicting what some of our favorite nominees will wear. Michelle Monaghan, Jessica Lange, Uzo Aduba, and Louis C.K. couldn’t go wrong in these winning ensembles.
Michelle Monaghan, Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie for TRUE DETECTIVE
Full disclosure: I have a girl crush on Monaghan and I really want her to win. Yes, this petite powerhouse flaunted serious acting chops in True Detective, but that’s not the only reason I want her to get the award. Good people deserve good things. I had the pleasure of styling her for our resort fashion feature this year and was very impressed—there was not an ounce of diva entitlement, no complaining— even in triple digit heat in Palm Springs. I now know firsthand how easy she is to style; she looked amazing in everything we put on her. For the Golden Globes, I’d love to see her wear something that accentuates her dainty frame and drops a few jaws at the same time, like this shapely crimson gown from Zac Posen.
Jessica Lange, Best Actress in a Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie for AMERICAN HORROR STORY
Lange is the Meryl Streep of the small screen. I love her and I love American Horror Story. She’s a red carpet veteran but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t had a few sartorial misses over the years. I’m still not sure what I think of the gown she wore to last years Golden Globes. I dug the rich jewel tone velvet but the shape was a little frumpy. Lange is sexy and (minus her role as a nun) all of her characters on American Horror Story have been a little foxy, too. So I’d like to see her in something that plays to her sultry side but is still (and I have mixed feelings about this term) age-appropriate. Finding something that fit the bill was harder than I expected. The spring collections are full of bare midriffs and plunging necklines, which most of the population, regardless of age, couldn’t pull off. I think this Tadashi Shoji lace gown with capped sleeves and its flirty nude-colored lining is sufficiently saucy.
Uzo Aduba, Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie for ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK
“Crazy Eyes” was crazy beautiful at last year’s Emmy Awards dressed in a cardinal red Christian Siriano gown. This year I hope she dons an equally stunning dress, like this Elie Saab head turner. I think its silver beaded bodice and silky lavender skirt would look great against Aduba’s skin tone.
Louis C.K., Best Actor in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy for LOUIE
We may be used to seeing Louis C.K. in a black T and dad jeans but truthfully he does a good job cleaning up for award shows. His all black ensemble wasn’t bad, though it could have used some tailoring. I’m such a huge fan of C.K. I want him to hit it out of the ballpark. Unfortunately, he won’t be attending this year’s Golden Globes (the comedian will be performing at the Forum instead). Oh well. A midnight blue or a grey tuxedo would make this comic really stand out Sunday night–especially on stage in front of fans.
