Getting Nailed Backstage at NY Fashion Week: OPI For Katie Holmes, Jason Wu, Mary-Kate and Ashley

492

L.A.-based nail lacquer company OPI was on hand (and toes) on runways all over NY Fashion Week, teaming up with first time Fashion Week-ers like Katie Holmes to more experienced designers like Jason Wu. Looks like the big nail polish trend for Spring 2013 is a pale nail with a contrasting diagonal tip. Why wait til next year? This is a trend you can start following now. Here’s a look backstage at the OPI collaborations for inspiration.

OPI teamed with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen for their presentation. They chose the classic, sheer OPI nail lacquer in Bubble Bath on both fingers and toes to complement the neutrals, oranges, jewel tones and beautiful brocade fabrics that walked the runway.

Designer Katharine Polk sent her models down the runway with two tone nails using OPI shades— the bottom coat Don’t Pretzel My Buttons, topped with the currently unreleased limited edition The Man with the Golden Gun 18k (a glitter-flecked gold). The Man with the Golden Gun will be available worldwide in next month.

Jason Wu

Wu chose OPI nail lacquer in Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees, a deep blue-grey color which matched Wu’s dark color palatte and popped against his pale pink pieces.

Each model wore two coats OPI nail lacquer in Don’t Touch My Tutu as the base. Half were finished with a pop of diagonal color in A Roll in the Hague, while the other half were polished with a diagonal created with one coat OPI nail lacquer in The “It” Color topped with one coat OPI nail lacquer in Don’t Talk Bach to Me. These orange-red and mustard yellow hues were featured prominently in Lauren Moffatt’s line.

OPI joined designers Katie Holmes and Jeanne Yang for their first New York Fashion Week show. Models wore OPI nail lacquer in Samoan Sand on fingers and toes, but nails were accented with asymmetrical French tips – some models wearing OPI nail lacquer in Black Onyx, others with Big Apple Red.

Designer Jenni Kayne picked a nude nail with bright yellow tips, requesting OPI nail lacquer in Need Sunglasses? after seeing this color on a friend’s nails and falling in love with the shade. OPI nail lacquer in Don’t Touch My Tutu was used as the base to provide contrast with the accent hue.
