The ladies of Hollywood looked stunning at every occasion in 2014—hey, how can you not with stylists, designer dresses, and borrowed gems? But some trips down the carpet stick in this SEEN Queen’s mind more than others. Here are my top five memorable frocks from 2014’s social whirl. I can’t wait to see what fashionable moments 2015 brings.
The singer takes the number one spot in a gorgeous rose-colored Zac Posen gown and Chopard diamond necklace. She squeaked in under the wire wearing this fab off-the-shoulder stunner at her inaugural Diamond Ball on December 11th.
2. Jennifer Lopez
With Gucci as the big-time sponsor, everyone looked amazing at LACMA’s Art & Film Gala in November. The one dress I could not take my eyes off of, however, was J. Lo’s navy blue silk georgette gown. It had a plunging neckline and sparkled under Chris Burden’s Urban Lights with oodles of Montana blue crystals and metallic paillettes.
3. Cate Blanchett
When Cate Blanchett picked up her Best Actress Oscar this year for her role in Blue Jasmine, her gold-colored Armani Prive gown also won my attention. In person, you could actually hear the gown move before you saw it thanks to its flared tulle skirt and capped sleeves that included sequins and light gold Swarovski crystals. To me it sounded like money, or at least like poker chips clicking together when she walked. I’m not talking about those blue and red suckers you play with at home on poker night—think Monte Carlo.
4. Jane Fonda
AFI presented Jane Fonda with a Life Achievement Award this year and to her list of many, many accomplishments I have to add this black and white Vera Wang dress. Fonda always stands out at events (she looks incredible) but this dress in particular was my fave. The jewelry is Chopard.
5. Kate Hudson
I always like Hudson’s choices. She usually shows up to fancy events in champagne, gold, or silver sparkly dresses. I loved what she wore to tell tales about co-star Matthew McConaughey when the Cinematheque honored him in October. She also still had vaguely pink hair. Her shimmery, form-fitting gown was designed by Jenny Packham. Bonus points: I’ve never caught her doing a pick-and-lift with the tops of her strapless dresses.
