Clare Vivier Opens on Montana Avenue

The handbag designer has gone to the beach

Goods bought at the Clare Vivier store are no longer strictly an Eastside score: The doors to the beloved handbag designer’s first Santa Monica location, which was designed by Barbara Bestor and will offer a mix of Clare V. classics and seasonal items for sale, opened today. Asked what brought her west, Vivier noted Montana Avenue’s comfy and casual vibe. “We opened our very first store in Silver Lake because that was my neighborhood, where I lived and where I felt closest to the local community,” she said. “I soon realized that so many people who live on the Westside had a hard time coming all the way over to [Silver Lake] to shop. Montana Avenue feels homey and community-based, which I thought was a perfect fit.” The store may be only hours old, but Vivier is settling in to the neighborhood nicely. “The light is just incredible in Santa Monica,” she says. “Being a few short blocks from the ocean is a wonderfully welcome change of pace.”
