The premiere of The Vow starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams was held last night at Grauman’s Chinese Theater, where dozens of squealing women lined both sides of Hollywood Boulevard, waiting to catch a glimpse of the former male stripper. (Who knew Channing Tatum had such an adoring and dedicated fan base? I couldn’t pick him out in a lineup before last night.)
The movie, which hits theaters February 10—just in time for Valentine’s Day— is a total chick fantasy flick with countless shots of a shirtless Tatum who plays a sensitive, romantic, loving, firecely loyal, and doting husband— all that ladies, and a gratuitous bum shot.
The story may be “inspired by true events” but it follows the age-old predicatable formula— boy meets girl, they fall in love, boy loses girl… and…well, I won’t spoil it…
However, I will say that there was a surprising scene-stealing performance— by McAdams’ hair.
Her locks morph into at least 6 completely different dos during the course of the movie (which I believe spans about a year) and it changes color 2 to 3 times as well (the photos rotating above, minus the red carpet shot, are a few of the hairstyles McAdams’ character sports in The Vow). On the other hand, Tatum’s mop stayed the same the entire movie, but it was such an intriguing cut, with one side shorn and brushed forward a la Beiber, the other long and side swept, that his mane threatened at times to upstage his performance. I couldn’t take my eyes off it— it had such screen presence.
The premiere and wedding-themed after party was exclusively sponsored, appropriately, by Ralph Lauren’s sweet fragrance Romance, but the film does have other “partners.”
