Black Friday Deals Worth Getting Out Of Bed For

On a day off, especially one proceeded by a tryptophan-laden, comma-inducing feast, the last thing I want to do is fight traffic and hunt for parking spots. And that’s just the beginning, the first level in the discount inferno known as Black Friday. At big box retail chains I’ve witnessed epic Lord of the Rings-scale battles over inkjet printers and Diaper Genies. Needless to say, Black Friday ain’t my bag. But, when all is tallied and taxed, who can’t resist a bargain? Especially when we’re talking discounted designer threads from cool local boutiques. However, the discounts have to be deep to motivate me. Like ‘90s supermodel Linda Evangelista, who famously quipped that she didn’t get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day, I’m not leaving the sanctity of my home for less than 30% off tomorrow.

With that in mind, here are my top picks (I threw in a couple of cheats— stores that are offering the same discounts at their online stores, just in case the tryptophan doesn’t wear off in time):

1. Beckley
A storewide sale! A lot of times a store will lure shoppers with a steep discount “on selected merch” which can mean four items they couldn’t get rid of. Not Beckely. You’ll get 40% off items throughout the store— like dresses by Beckley By Melissa and Camilla and Marc, separates from 3.1 Phillip Lim, hosiery by the famous House of Holland, and Eddie Borgo jewelry. This definitely tops my list, plus  the same sale is being offered at Beckley’s online boutique, in case I don’t feel like leaving the house all.  (11 am to 7 pm)  8128 W. 3rd St., 310- 652-3500
* Beckley is featured as one of L.A.’s 54 Best Shops in the December issue of Los Angeles magazine (on newsstands now)

2. Kelly Wearstler’s Warehouse Sale
A co-worker claims she scored silk dresses and pantsuits for $30 each here. I can’t promise what will be left tomorrow but it’s definitelt worth a stop. (10 am to 5 pm) 8104 Beverly Blvd.

3. Vivienne Westwood
As if I didn’t already adore the designer and her “quality over quantity” philosophy, she’s offering 50% her clothes and accessories. (11 am to 7 pm)
8320 Melrose Ave., 323-951-0021

4. Trina Turk
You’ll find up to 60% off selected items from this L.A.-based designer who has defined Palm Spring-chic and SoCal sophisticate. You can also shop from bed and get the same deals at her online store. (11 am – 6 pm) 8008 W. Third St., 323- 651-1382

5. AG
I’m a huge fan of this L..A.-based brand (their jeans are made in L.A. too! talk about supporting the local economy). Not only will you find 30% off merchandise in their retail stores, AG is also opening its factory store where they’re practically giving away jeans at 70% off! (11 am to 7 pm) AG Store: 329 N. Beverly Dr., 310-275-2621 AG Factory: 2700 Sequoia Ave, South Gate, CA 90280

6. Gorjana & Griffin Pop Cart @The Grove
Score gorgeous classic leather weekend bags, wallets, messengers, and totes at 30% off their original prices. I would definitely hit this pop up for holiday gifts for the dudes in my life. (Cart located in front of movie theater at the Grove)

7. Ted Baker
Save 30% on  the designer’s signature party frocks and suits (just in time for the holidays). I also love Ted Baker’s accessories, from clutches to jewelry. And the best part of this sale is you don’t have to worry if you happen to run out of steam on Frida; they’re offering it through Monday. 31 N. Robertson Blvd., 310-550-7855

8. Broome Street General Store
A great spot to pick up gifts for the holidays. Personally, I’d go for the selection of Pendelton Woollen Mills. But the early worm gets the goods— 30% off will only be offered from 9 am to noon.  2912 Rowena Ave., 323- 570-0405

 9. H. Lorenzo Tent Sale
A tent sounds like it could hold a lot of merchandise and at 70% off,  let’s hope so. The boutique carries loads of designers from around the globe like Comme des Garcons, Raquel Alegra, and Hakusan sunnies. (10 am to 7 pm) Tent is located behind the Sunset Plaza storefront @ 8660 W. Sunset Blvd, Sunset Plaza, 310- 659-1434

10. H&M
Yes, expect some elbows to be thrown at this one, which offers a whopping 70% off shoes, outwear, sweaters, pants, and accessories— we’re talking yard sale prices here. I’ll skip the mall and go online where the same deals are being offered on Friday. If you wait until Sunday or Cyber Monday to buy online you’ll receive 40% off and free shipping on purchases of $50 or more. Click here to find a store near you.
