Beauty Counter Intelligence: A Green Tea Perfume

Let the new drink-inspired scent sink in

Inspired by a calming tea ceremony, Maison Martin Margiela’s Tea Escape ($125) fragrance reminds me of my last last spa visit and that serene smell of essential oils and candles I often wish I could bottle. The well-crafted infusion of green tea, bergamot, pink pepper, jasmine sambac, osmanthus, and puffed rice notes are refreshing and long lasting. This doesn’t smell like that cup of green tea you order at your local java joint; it’s far less earthy. Here, a clean tea smell blends well with the warmth of the jasmine and a little hint of sweetness. The result is an ideal day-spray that stays close to the skin. Everyone I asked to sniff my wrists—men and women alike—loved the fragrance for its pared down, almost gender-neutral simplicity.
