Buckaroo Banzai was, arguably, the movie that marked the moment geeks became cool.
The plot of Roman Polanski’s late-80s thriller is about an American man (Harrison Ford) in Paris who is haunted by the disappearance of his wife. But the memory from the film that’s stuck with me for decades is the red dress and black leather jack worn by his French co-star Emmanuelle Seigner.
As a movie, Hemingway & Gellhorn was hit and miss. As a fashion template, it was fantastic. Even as bombs were dropping and buildings were collapsing into rubble, Nicole Kidman managed to look like the most stylish war correspondent ever.
I'm not sure what sets it off, but every few years I get a hankering to watch Twin Peaks again.
