Fans of The Bloc are drawn to this open-air Mecca due to curated shops, restaurants, and bars. Not to be left out—art installations, fitness classes, and live performances. What keeps the love growing? The Bloc always upping the ante by bringing the world’s best to visitors. Currently creating a buzz: four new venues ready to dazzle.

Dependable, Sustainable, Luxury: Volvo Studio DTLA

Providing the ability to shop for a vehicle while out and about at The Bloc: genius. Just such an opportunity can be found at Volvo Studio DTLA. Located on the Plaza Level, Volvo Studio specifically showcases the new, fully electric Volvo XC40 SUV Recharge and Volvo C40 Crossover Recharge.

The C40 has an electric range of 226 miles and a fast charge of 10-80% within 28 minutes. Added to the mix, 402 horsepower. The XC40 has an electric range of 223 miles, a fast charge of 10-80% in 38 minutes, along with 402 horsepower. Both models promise one pedal drive with smooth acceleration. Keeping sustainability at the fore with its leather-free interior. Even better: zero tailpipe emissions.

Merely get behind the wheel to see features available in both models, including Google built-in, with its hands-free access to Google apps and services, including live traffic updates. Of course, the Volvo app is also available. On tap, too, is a 360° camera, cross traffic alert, air purifier, and Harman Kardon Premium Sound. Ready to hit the road? Take them out for test drives.

Cool and Creamy: BellaLina Gelato

Fans of Café Balzac will love its new sister venue, BellaLina Gelato. Combine a visit to both, and it’s possible to start with viennoiseries (pistachio, raspberry, almond croissant, please), sweet and savory crêpes, and an espresso. Next stop, BellaLina, to cool things down with creamy gelato and sorbetto. The only problem? Choosing between the rotating selection of flavors like Alphonso Mango, Madagascar Vanilla Bean, Menta Chocolate Chip, Ube, Cookie Monster, Pure Sicilian Pistachio, and Rosanna Raspberry Sorbetto. Mmm, more pistachio and raspberry…

Encores at Marugame Udon

Reopening in mid-August is The Bloc’s beloved Marugame Udon. The restaurant’s theatre kitchen truly makes ordering a meal an event. Watching ingredients come together for dishes like the Tonkotsu—in this case, handmade udon noodles, pork broth with chashu pork, miso ground pork, garlic, seasoned egg, and chili oil—is so mesmerizing, one is compelled to keep ordering more dishes. The star of the show: udon noodles made in the centuries-old Sanuki style from Japan’s Kagawa Prefecture.
