Xandros

693

The only thing that could divert your attention from the sword-balancing belly dancer gyrating between tables are the grilled prawns—each the size of a man’s dress shoe—on the plate before you. The flashy Xandros doesn’t shy away from the big fat Greek stereotypes (live folk music, those dancers, an ouzo menu), but this ain’t Papa Cristo’s. Among the pita-ready dips are a mousse made from smoked fish caviar, lemon, and herbs and a puree of split peas with garlic and cumin. A few cheese-based dishes are set aflame tableside (we’re partial to the saganaki), and mains include roasted lamb, rabbit stew, and a bevy of grilled seafood. The pita could be fresher, and the service was laid-back for the prices. » 50 N. La Cienega Blvd. (310-854-1001). D nightly. Full bar. Greek  $$$$
