The Waffle

Hollywood and Melrose
201

Scooter Kanfer-Cartmill (Naya, 101 Coffee Shop) has made a 22-hour diner out of a former bank in the heart of Hollywood. The home-style menu boasts a bit of everything: Waffle varie-
ties include a golden brown basic and a disappointing jalapeño-corn giant topped with fried chicken and gravy. Omelettes are massive, Gruyère melts over salty corned beef hash, and buttermilk biscuits soak up yet more gravy. Already had breakfast? Try a burger with waffle-cut fries, a meat loaf sandwich, or a chicken potpie. The design errs on the wrong side of retro, but a sunny table on the patio will do for daytime, and the upstairs bar works for night.
