The Malibu Inn

The legendary seaside rocker restaurant and bar has been reborn again. The decor has gone thrift-store chic, complete with racy murals and a pool table. We wish they’d let us see the ocean from the giant back patio, but after a few happy hour drink specials we forgot all about it. The theme of the menu—designed by Top Chef contestant Angelo Sosa—falls somewhere between street fair food and marijuana munchies. (Or are they one and the same?) A sautéed mushroom and bacon side is called Hippie Shrooms, and a creamy orecchiette is dubbed Smack and Cheese. Paprika-dusted popcorn shrimp could float away, they’re so light. Baby back ribs are coated in a jet-black mole BBQ sauce that could use a little more sweetness but has serious depth.
