Soi 7

Another addition to what’s quickly becoming downtown’s restaurant row, Soi 7 offers a swank take on Thai cuisine. The space, housed in a historic building (what isn’t, in this area?), is huge and the decor Viceroy chic: textured wall treatments, a marble bar, high ceilings, lacquered bistro chairs, and loads of mood lighting. The menu is a blend of traditional curry, noodle, and rice dishes (all satisfying, if not quite on par with those of the Thai Town stalwarts) with a handful of innovative entrées like deep-fried whole snapper with a mild chile sauce, braised short ribs blanketed in a sweet massaman curry, and Mekhong whiskey-infused baby back ribs. Tempura-fried long beans are great paired with anything from the varied menu of Asian beers. » 518 W. 7th St. (213-537-0333). L-D daily. Beer, wine, and sake. Thai  $$
