Rosewood Tavern

When one of restaurateur George Abou-Daoud’s restaurants (District) closes, another one opens. At this busy gastropub and chop house on Fairfax, the only thing thicker than the steaks is the menu of scotch and bourbon. The arched ceiling hints at an airplane hangar; the dark green walls evoke an earlier time. Are you getting a masculine vibe? You should. This is Abou-Daoud’s more casual answer to spots like Cut, and it generally works. Most steaks—rib eye, top sirloin culotte, New York strip—are $25 and under (à la carte) and come out at the desired temperature (not the case everywhere). Should the knife and fork thing feel too formal, there’s also a primo beef dip sandwich and a classic SoCal-style burger. » 448 N. Fairfax Ave. (323-944-0980 or D nightly. Full bar. Chop House $$$
