Red Hill

In the 1950s, Echo Park earned the nickname Red Hill due to the area’s suspected Communist types. Half a century later the still-left-leaning hood is home to a rustic American bistro of the same name. Chef Trevor Rocco is behind the menu, which skews as much locavore as it does international. We appreciate the well-executed simplicity of just about everything. Roasted broccoli is tossed with chili and a squeeze of lemon. Cherry peppers heat up a fried egg on whole wheat Italian bread. A pulled-pork ragù sticks to a tangle of pappar-delle. Wines and beers are as eclectic as the neighborhood. » 1325 Echo Park Ave., 213-482-0886 or
