Nobu Los Angeles

La Cienega/West Hollywood
165

You no longer have to trek all the way to Malibu to feel the celebrity-fueled frenzy of chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s Nobu franchise. At Nobu Los Angeles—mere blocks from Matsuhisa—high-end scene and careful Japanese cuisine battle it out for top billing inside a series of dining rooms with dark woods, fabric panels, and lights dangling like grapes. Those already familiar with Nobu won’t need a menu; the best of the classics—whitefishtiradito, yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño, creamy spicy crab, tender squid “pasta”—remain. The addition of a brick oven makes for new dishes like roasted vegetables with truffle butter. Service ranges from pretentious (which we expect) to frazzled (more of a surprise). Drench your frustrations in amasu of cold sake. » 903 N. La Cienega Blvd. (310-657-5711 or noburestaurants.com). D Mon.-Sat. Full bar. Japanese $$$
