The newest entity to fill the space that once housed the Patina Restaurant Group’s Pinot Hollywood and Eat on Sunset claims to take inspiration from southern Spain. We don’t doubt it, but we were expecting maybe a fried fish or two. The menu does boast several paellas, decent versions in a town that can’t seem to rustle up a great one. The Bibb lettuce salad tossed with buttermilk dressing, dried cherries, and manchego is a high point. Kobe beef carpaccio is preplated and arrives fresh from the fridge—a pet peeve. Tandoori-spiced lamb chops are nicely cooked, but the ethnic influence feels watered down. The space is a stunner, with high ceilings lit the color of the sky and a large patio with fire pits that looks up at the real thing. » 1448 N. Gower St. (323-962-0800 or lavidahollywood.com).
