The Inside Scoop on DTLA’s Best Sample Sales

Because life’s too short to pay retail

A trio of fleeting sample sales in downtown L.A. will save you cash and refresh your closet.

California Market Center

Under Armour, Herschel Supply Co., and Goorin Bros. are just some of the showrooms at this massive complex that offer up men’s and women’s apparel, giftables, and home decor at bargain prices. (A board in the lobby features a list of each month’s participating showrooms.) Most are cash-only, so hit up an ATM ahead of time. 110 E. 9th St., Fashion District

Cooper Design Space

The 11-story building houses tons of bright, airy showrooms, some of which belong to L.A.’s most coveted brands (denim darling 7 For All Mankind, ready-to-wear fave Alice + Olivia, local legend Michael Stars). The roster of storefronts that open to the public changes monthly, so call ahead to find out which companies are in on the deal. 860 S. Los Angeles St., Fashion District

Most sample sales offer just that: the current season’s samples (aka clothes in sizes 0 to 4). Some of the showrooms here—Lucky, Johnny Was, etc.—stock pieces from past seasons, which means more choices for you. Check the website the night before for the most accurate list of brands partaking in the monthly fun, and bring some $20s—your plastic is no good here. 127 E. 9th St., Fashion District
