High above Los Feliz Boulevard, at the end of Berendo Street, an artfully designed staircase cuts a path up the slope to Bonvue Ave-nue—a grueling 181 steps in all. A right turn directs you to the intersection with Glendower Avenue, where an even longer staircase on the left lifts you across the cul-de-sac end of Bryn Mawr Road and up to the rim of Griffith Park. Above you are the domes of the Griffith Observatory. Below are sweeping views of Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Echo Park, and Hollywood. Turn right and traverse Glendower for several minutes. A left onto Glendower Road delivers you to trails leading to the observatory. Straight ahead lies Ennis House, Frank Lloyd Wright’s textile-block masterpiece. A mile or so down the hill you can see Wright’s Hollyhock House, in Barnsdall Park. But to return to the starting point, continue down Glendower until you meet Bonvue again. At around 4800 Bonvue, make your way down the Berendo Steps.
