Run a 5K, Drink Wine, Eat Cheese

The Chardonnay Run gives you the chance to imbibe and gorge after you race

Your entertainment/imbibing options this busy weekend could include watching the Kentucky Derby and drinking, watching Mayweather/Pacquiao and drinking, celebrating Cinco de Mayo early and drinking, or running a 5K and drinking.

Yes, for those of you who’ve wondered what it would be like to pair long-distance running with wine and cheese, The Chardonnay Run, part of a national racing series, hits Santa Monica on Sunday.

There will be wine and cheese at the finish line on the Santa Monica Pier, along with a post-race bash that includes food trucks and live music. Point is, get ready to party while you’re sweaty, and maybe drink some water too.

The start times are 9 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 10 a.m., and registration ($65 to race) is open until 5 p.m. on Thursday. Spectator passes ($38, or $10 for ages 13-20) are also available. This is a charity event benefiting the Surfrider Foundation (“protecting oceans, waves, and beaches since 1984”), so you’ll know what you’re running for (besides the wine and cheese) when you take in the ocean views as you race.
