Beverage Warehouse, which sells wine and spirits in Del Rey, is a lot more than a liquor store. The alcohol purveyor puts together tasting events at Truxton’s American Bistro in Westchester that offer the kind of rare experience you won’t even get at elite national food festivals–unless you find yourself in Charleston chef Sean Brock’s hotel room at 2 a.m.
Last July, there was a Beverage Warehouse tasting with six Van Winkle bourbons, including Pappy Van Winkle 15-year, 20-year, and 23-year, bottles so coveted that Beverage Warehouse didn’t even have them for sale. (Beverage Warehouse gets a small allocation of Pappy Van Winkle each year, but the waiting-list demand far exceeds the supply; we’ve heard stories about an Oscar-winning actor who places his order directly with Pappy Van Winkle and picks it up at a different Westside shop.)
In August, there was a Casa Dragones tequila tasting. November saw a tasting with 10 different sparkling wines, plus cheese and a five-course meal for $99.95, tax and gratuity included. Oh yes, the tastings include a generous dinner, too.
The next Beverage Warehouse event, which was just announced, will be at Truxton’s on Friday, Feb. 6. It’s also a $99.95 extravaganza with 10 bubblies: Dom Perignon Brut 2004, Laurent Perrier Cuvee Rose NV, Lanson White Label NV, Pol Roger Brut Reserve NV, Jacquart Blanc de Blancs 2006, Louis Roederer Brut 2007, Drappier Brut Rose NV, Alfred Gratien Cuvee Brut Classique NV, Voveti Prosecco NV, and Bollinger Brut Special Cuvee NV. That’s a lot of premium sparkling wine for one night, and Truxton’s will pair it with a selection of cheeses, pan-seared scallops, hand-carved filet mignon, coriander-crusted New Zealand lamb chops, salmon en croute, and strawberries and chocolate truffles.
