In addition to being the biggest night in the film industry, the Oscars are also the best open bar of the year. Along with the Johnnie Walker Platinum Label cocktails, there will be thousands of wine and champagne bottles poured. An Oscars statuette, by the way, weighs about the same as two bottles of wine, if any potential winners want to know how viable double-fisting will be on Sunday.
Sterling Vineyards will serve 2,300 bottles of wine (including limited-edition selections and Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir) combined pre-show and at the Governors Ball after-party. This means 13,480 glasses of wine made from nearly 2 million grapes weighing 3 1/2 tons.
Add that to the 1,500 bottles of Piper-Heidsieck Champagne (Cuvée Brut, Rose Sauvage, Rare 2002, and the reserved-for-the-backstage-engraving-room Rare 1988), and you can expect some wicked hangovers on Monday. Here’s a look at what the stars will be drinking on Sunday.
